Here’s another game I play with my beginner violin students. It really drills the open strings. I would play this during the second or third lesson after they have been drilled in open string pizzicato.
You will need:-
- A game board – click here for Can You Name This String Game
- A set of game cards (G, D, A and E) Can You Name This String Game Cards
- A set of G, D, A and E flashcards (on the staff) Open Strings Flashcards printed on coloured card stock if you wish.
- A small box of smarties/gummy bears or other small lolly.
How to play:
- Each student needs a game board in front of them. Best played either at a table, or sitting on the floor.
- Hold up the game cards at random. Student needs to place a lolly on the correct string.
To make the game a little harder and to encourage note recognition, play the game again holding up the flashcards instead of the game cards, or add the flashcards in and hold them all up at random.
