Secret Piano Teacher’s Business (AKA Winter Piano Seminar) Sydney

The Winter Piano Seminar was held in Sydney on Friday 16th July 2010 at the Wesley Conference Centre, Pitt Street, Sydney.

There were teachers from all over Sydney (and beyond) in attendance, and the room looked pretty full to me.

After the welcome was a Masterclass by Abe Cytrynowski on ‘Scintillating Scales’ followed by a demo of his Scalecards system.

Ray Partridge gave us a look into ‘Teaching in the Digital Age’.

Samantha Coates gave us some insightful information on ‘The Inherited Student; Delight or Disaster’.

Lunch (was yummy!!!)

Elissa Milne delved into ‘Great Repertoire Collections: Beginner to Advanced’

Samantha Coates braved the front again with ‘Games for Aural, Rhythm and Reading’.

Afternoon tea was followed by a panel discussion from AMEB examiners, teachers and representatives from other boards (the likes of Rita Crews, Abe Cytrynowski, Melinda from the AMEB Office – can never remember her surname – plus some others whose names have escaped me right now “The CPM guy”, the “teacher representative for AMEB” and “the examiner representative for AMEB”).

You always get back your money’s worth in freebies at these events.  Each teacher received a black bag with the following:-

– Book 1 ‘How to Blitz Sight Reading’

– ‘Classical Themes’ Level 1 from Hal Leonard

– Alfred’s Premier Piano Course ‘At Home 1A book’

– Alfred’s Premier Piano Course ‘Lesson 2B’ book.

– ‘How to Blitz Key Signatures’

– A 100 page manuscript pad

– A few other little bits and pieces eg a pen, handouts, question card etc.

Over the next few days I will write up some of the notes I took from some of the classes which were run on the day.  Can’t wait for the next one!
