I have a lot of students who have been captivated by the JK Rowling books about Harry Potter. I don’t mind them myself ;D
After such a long break over Christmas, I find that most students are a little rusty and have gotten out of their practice routine, so I like to motivate them with something fun. What could be more fun than getting to dress up like a wizard, get sorted out into houses and play some games around the Harry Potter theme?!
I have been wanting to do this for a while, but I ran out of time. I was inspired to dive into it this term by Samantha Coates’ blog on her website http://www.blitzbooks.com.au/Blog/EntryId/29/House-Points-Update.aspx. I ‘borrowed’ the idea to have only two houses: Slytherdor and Ravenpuff. I printed out house mottos, shields and a sign for my door. I even had capes that were appropriate colours.
I made a musical sorting hat, and my students will be sorted out into teams this week.
I found some Harry Potter labels to go on glass jars in case you wanted to do the “whole hog” (pardon the pun) found here: http://www.overthebigmoon.com/halloween-decor-harry-potter-potion-bottles-free-printable/
And I will need a nametag. “Professor Notehog” sounds like a good one ;D
