Music Practise at home: Motivational charts and stickers

Why do I spell ‘Practise’ with an ‘s’ instead of a ‘c’?  Because practise with an ‘s’ is the verb whereas practice with the ‘c’ is the noun.  A verb is a doing word, and so our students/children should be physically practising rather than just talking about it.

I’ve been putting up a few helpful hints and tips and tricks lately to try encourage students to practise at home.  No two students are the same though, so what may work for some will not work for others.

If your child is motivated more by a visual chart, then this is a good one that is cheap and easy to print up.

Free printable stickers and charts is a great site that has printable stickers and some matching charts, or mix and match that you or your child can pick and print.  The charts have 5 spaces.  If your teacher wants you to do a practise every day, just add a sticker on either side at the ends to get your full weeks worth in.

Remember that it is better to practise on more days of the week than you’re not, so 5 is still a good number of practices, but again it depends on your own teacher’s expectations.  I personally LOVE 7 practices from my students (and they get a lucky dip if they do) but 5 will still make me very happy.
