My Body Is A Temple of God

For the first week in August we get to introduce the month’s topic ‘My Body is a Temple of God’.  I liked the idea of using the pictures included in the page from the Nursery manual (found here: I Will Take Care of My Body) but I’m not so good with Photoshop yet, and it was going to take me an awful long time to separate each picture on the computer and colour them (I have arthritis and RSI in my hands, so manually colouring in is now incredibly painful).

I took an easier option.  Ready made pictures!  I found some pictures that go great with the topic.  I have:-

  1. I will eat good food (variety of different foods)
  2. I will be active (and exercise but not necessarily sports – my kids aren’t sporty but they’re still active).
  3. I will keep my body clean (hairbrush and tissues included)
  4. I will get enough sleep
  5. “I will only read and watch things that are pleasing to Heavenly Father”
  6. “I will only listen to music that is pleasing to Heavenly Father”.

I chose these because some will be covered in the 3 weeks following, and some (being active, keeping your body clean and getting enough sleep) are things I personally am reminding my own children at home.  I’m sure other Mums are telling their children the same thing, so if they’re hearing it in Primary as well (It’s part of the Word of Wisdom), it will reinforce it more.

How it works

It’s really easy. I am going to have a child choose a picture from out of my bag (just a plain black material drawstring bag I have).  They will describe to us what is happening and how it applies to our bodies, and then we will sing the presentation song that is next on my list (the primary children don’t need to know that though ;D ).  It reinforces what they learned in Sharing Time, but helps to get our Presentation songs done as well.  The pictures below are here: My Body Is A Temple pictures.
